Breakfast in St. Georges on the stern of the Horizon. |
St. Georges is one of the UN's World Heritage Places. And it is a little jewel. Almost all the buildings (>97%) are pastel with white roofs. Almost all roofs (>99%) are white. The roofs are made from local limestone, painted with a cement wash to water proof them, painted white so they stay cooler, have "steps" in the roof to slow rain water run off, and all water is collected in cisterns under the house for drinking water. Every couple of years, the roofs are painted with bleach to kill algea and bacteria. Hotels and some larger houses have their own water distilation plants.
